Located in Rome’s Ostiense district, an area marked by its industrial heritage, Oggianu Building is the result of a complete renovation aimed at redefining the building’s residential function. The project introduced two-room apartments on the lower floors and a penthouse loft designed to accommodate the owners’ family.
The most distinctive architectural feature is the external cylindrical staircase with elevator, inspired by the imposing 1930s gasometer nearby. This steel structure serves as the primary vertical connection, establishing a dialogue between the building and its industrial surroundings. Inside, the loft-style penthouse is defined by a multifunctional open-plan living space, where large wrought iron windows along the northern façade flood the interior with natural light.
The material palette reinforces the connection between old and new: painted brick walls unify the interiors, while the dark white plaster and exposed brick facade of the penthouse integrates the intervention within the district’s evolving architectural identity. Oggianu Building thus becomes a refined reinterpretation of an industrial past, transformed for contemporary living.
